THE STUDENTS’ UNION CONSTITUTION

The Students' Union's Constitution provides the framework and guidelines for decision and policy making, student elections and much more.

The Constitution is in three parts - the Articles of Association, the Bye Laws and the policy book.

Printed copies of these documents are available on request; please email thestudentsunion@uwe.ac.uk.

The latest versions of the Articles and Bye Laws were signed off by the Trustees October 2019, Student Council April 2020, Referendum March 2021 and enacted July 2021.

 

1) The Articles of Association 

This primarily sets out the rules related to the Board of Trustees, the financial probity and overall governance of The Students' Union and is adapted from a model text produced by the Charity Commission. The Articles of Association were last updated July 2021.

2) The Bye Laws 

These set out the specific structures, rules and processes of The Students' Union at UWE that govern our day-to-day operations. The Bye Laws were last updated July 2021

• Your Students’ Union is committed to inclusion as a core value. We take a zero tolerance approach to any language or behaviour that leaves students feeling harassed, bullied or discriminated against. This includes behaviour that is: homophobic, racist, sexist, threatening, transphobic, violent, or offensive to a disabled student, a mature student or a student with a religion or belief. We therefore operate a Safer Spaces Policy to promote inclusion as well as a positive and safe environment for all of our students and staff. Please support us to provide an environment in which all of us can enjoy university and union spaces.
