Duties

You will be required to participate in research studies – either coming along to a face to face session or completing an online feedback session or survey.

Each study is different.

Study types range from product testing, branding research, app and website usability, medical device testing.

Topics include grocery items, finance, healthcare, technology, holidays, automotive to name just a few. 

You would be required to sign up to our contact database with some basic information and then you will hear from us when we have research studies that we think might be of interest to you.

Each opportunity would include information about the topic, available sessions, payment amount for participating and an application link to complete a short survey which would determine if you meet the criteria to participate in that study.

You would then be called to confirm your answers and informed whether you would be part of that study.

You would have a specific time and date for participation.  Once you have participated in the study, you would receive your incentive as a thank you for sharing your time and opinions and would not have any further responsibilities.

None. Suitability is dependent on criteria of each individual research study.

Our Welcome interns support the HR team and key Welcome Stakeholders to make the Welcome Programme a success.

Welcome Interns support with the administration and scheduling Welcome Rep shifts for our Welcome Events Programme.

Welcome Interns will support a range of Human Resource tasks including:

  • Recruitment & Group Interviews
  • Onboarding & Processing New Starters
  • Adding starters to our HR system (Staff Savvy)
  • Delivering Inductions & Training
  • Using a HR System (Staff Savvy)
  • Creating rota’s and shifts

If you would like to gain experience in a Human Resource focused role or to support the effective resourcing of one of the South West’s largest Welcome events programmes for a temporary, flexible eight week internship this could be the ideal position for you.

The Welcome Programme is made up of a series of events and activities for new and returning UWE Bristol students. Events include mature student meet-ups, charity shop crawls, cookery workshops and our annual twp-day Freshers Fair here at The Students' Union on Frenchay Campus and a Welcome Fair at both Bower Ashton and Glenside Campus sites- showcasing the extracurricular opportunities available to UWE Bristol students!

Activity runs throughout September and into early October, into the first main teaching block.

The role of a Welcome Intern is to make sure there are student staff (Welcome Reps and Late Night Do It Right Reps), available to work Welcome events and to support event leads with activity throughout the programme, this includes:

  • Recruiting Welcome Reps
  • Onboarding, delivering training and inductions
  • Creating rotas
  • Filling shifts
  • Covering absence and filling shifts at late notice
  • Communicating event briefings
  • Supporting welcome rep inductions and delivering training
  • Supervising events if required
  • Supporting key welcome stakeholders with ad-hoc tasks as required
  • Being the KEY point of contact for ALL Welcome Reps throughout the programme
  • Liaising with event leads and key welcome programme stakeholders and making sure that Welcome Reps understand their roles and expectations throughout the programme
  • Supporting HR with the successful onboarding of all welcome reps and troubleshooting onboarding and right to work administrative issues

You will be a confident communicator with strong administration skills, you will spend lots of time using our People system 'Staff Savvy’ and communicating with Welcome Reps (students) to get shifts filled.

If you are proactive and are looking to work up to 37 hours per week, with base hours of around 12 hours per week and get exposure to the behind the scenes of one of the UK's largest Welcome Programmes and Freshers Fair, this could be the ideal position for you!

Please note that there may be the opportunity to pick up additional hours working events/ activities as welcome reps outside of the intern hours at the Welcome Rep hourly rate.

Please only apply for an intern position if you are available to work an average of 12 hours per week for up to an 8-week period and flexibly up to 37 hours including evening and weekend working.

The Students' Union at UWE - Welcome Reps

Overview

The Welcome programme settles new and returning students back into the UWE Bristol community and includes a huge range of events and activities, for example the two day Freshers Fair and much more!

The Students' Union at UWE are looking for UWE students who will be available to work the Welcome programme from the start of September through to mid-October 2023.

Please view the Welcome information document here to understand the duties expected for each of the roles and select the correct role for you.

Welcome Reps (30 Positions)

Welcome Rep shifts will involve weekday, evening, and weekend working.

Shifts will vary in length from 2 hours up to 9 hour shifts. 

*Please note that as Rep positions are for bank staff, shifts will be offered to you, and you can offer to pick up shifts dependant on your individual availability, so work can fit around your study and personal commitments.

Welcome Reps will need knowledge of at least one of the UWE campus sites and understand The Students' Union at UWE and our offer to students.

We are looking for students with a can-do attitude who are willing to take on a variety of tasks to make the 2023 Welcome events programme a success.

Overview

The Students' Union at UWE are looking for UWE students to work our ‘Late Night, Do It Right’ events as part of the Welcome programme in September/ October 2023!

‘Late Night, Do It Right’ aims to promote a safe and positive experience for UWE Bristol students taking part in the night time events programme on campus and in Bristol city centre.

‘Late Night, Do It Right’ Reps offer friendly support and advice and freebies (water, food, charge phones) on nights out.

The Late Night Do It Right Intern will work on Late Night initiatives, safe drinking campaigns and reviewing the impacts of the Late Night Do It Right Programme alongside supervising the Late Night Do It Right Reps during their night time shifts.

Late Night Do It Right Reps (10 Positions)

Late Night Do It Right Rep shifts are late night shifts, usually 9.00pm-3.00am (subject to change)

**Please note that as Rep positions are for bank staff, shifts will be offered to you, and you can offer to pick up shifts dependant on your individual availability, so work can fit around your study and personal commitments!

When early hour shifts are worked within the city centre a taxi will be paid for return to your accommodation.

Late Night Do It Right Intern (1 Position)

We are looking for a Late Night Do It Right Intern to Support the safe delivery of our night time Late Night Do It Right Programme.

As an intern you will be responsible for supporting and supervising late night do it right reps, organising interventions around night time club events and supporting a responsible drinking culture and gathering the data for impact and evaluation monitoring during the length of the campaign.

Late Night Do It Right Intern shifts will be a combination of daytime shifts for administration and ‘late night’ shifts (usually 9.00pm-3.00am) for an average of 25 hours per week for up to an 8-week period.

Hours per week: 25-40 hours per week, including evenings, late nights, and weekends 

Start Date: August 2023 (TBC)

Rate of Pay: £11.21 per hour (August Increase Pending)

Room Management Assistant

Room Management Assistant:

  • Setting up rooms for teaching is accordance with the room information poster on the wall.
  • Adjust/add furniture in line with the room information poster.
  • Using a learn pad tablet record the outcome of various tasks:
  1. Test the rooms IT equipment is working and report accordingly.
  2. Undertake checks within the rooms such as maintenance checks, cleaning/bin spot checks, room misuse and breakages of furniture.
  3. Ad-hoc checks such as checking fire doors are clear, and there are no obstructions in the rooms.

Full training on the tablet and requirements will be provided.

Skills and Experience

Excellent timekeeping – the job is a 06:00 start and therefore excellent timekeeping is essential.

Physically Fit – the job is a role that will require you to be on your feet walking around a predefined route on campus to a variety of teaching rooms.

Organisation – the job requires a variety of small tasks being completed in a short time frame, so an organised approach is key.

Flexibility – willing to help others in the team where for example two people are required to move an item of furniture.

Communication – staying in touch with the duty officer highlighting issues as they arise.

Technology – The job will require an ability to record your findings on a learn pad and also test the teaching rooms technology, e.g., projector, PC. Therefore, an understanding of using technology is essential.
