Frequently billed as the Worlds fastest growing sport, MMA combines all disciplines of martial arts into one. Some of these include BJJ, Boxing, Muay Thai, and Wrestling to name a few.
Frequently billed as the Worlds fastest growing sport, MMA combines wrestling and striking martial arts into one complete discipline, including techniques from Thai-boxing, Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Boxing. Although contemporary MMA is only as old as the world’s first website and phenomenally proliferated with the growth of the internet, its roots can be traced as far back as Pankration in the ancient Olympic Games.
COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT MMA
MISCONCEPTION 1: MMA HAS NO RULES
MMA does have rules with respect to sporting values and safety. Professional competitors since 2001 comply with the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts. Amateur competitors worldwide compete under the Unified Amateur MMA Rules.
MISCONCEPTION 2: MMA IS DANGEROUS
Regulated MMA adheres to a strict set of rules and regulations that governs officiating, medical safety and all aspects of the sport. Statistics from the research show the sport to be safer than comparable recognized combat sports.
MISCONCEPTION 3: MMA IS VIOLENT
Common with all recognized martial arts and combat sports, MMA is motivated by the competitor’s desire to test their skill within a sporting structure and within the rules of a game.

Tuesdays 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm at W-Block
Thursdays: 5:00 pm- 6:30 pm at the Center For Sport
Fridays: 6:30 pm- 7:30 pm at the Center For Sport

You're allowed to come along to one free session without having to purchase a membership to see if you like it.
After this, you will need to buy our membership on this site, a 1-time purchase of the Union sports fee (this works for all sports societies)

Recommended Equipment
Striking:
Athletic clothing- Shorts, T-shirt
When using gloves we suggest you use hand wraps to avoid injury, these are quite cheap online.
We will provide both gloves and shin guards, although we recommend buying your own after a few months
If you wish to spar you must have a gumshield (very cheap online) and we recommend boys buy a groin guard.
If you wish to bring your own gear we recommend 16oz Boxing Gloves and Shin Guards that adequately protect your shins and instep (foot)
Grappling:
Wear a loose-fitting t-shirt, and either shorts or tights. Avoid shorts with buttons, zips or any protruding objects that could harm your partner.
If you wish to spar you must have a gumshield.
