Build a Better Community. Together.
Growing up, I moved around, all across the country. No matter where I went, I felt different. I understand many of you may have experienced that same feeling when coming to UWE. From the food that we eat to the way other students act with each other, it can feel lonely. To fix this, I aim to make 3 major changes to the university, while also being someone for anyone experiencing this loneliness to contact.
My 3 Targets:
- Build an International & Fresh Food Market Place on-Campus: Students from abroad should have a convenient place on campus to buy foods they're familiar with. Whether it's Fufu from Africa, Casava from South America, Dosa from India or Dashi from East Asia. Everyone should be able to eat & share the food they know and love. Food Builds Community.
- Bridge Courses To Meet New People: Usually, students spend 3-5 years on the same course surrounded by the same people. However, there are opportunities in the curriculum to mix courses, it's just not happening. Bridging assignments between courses would provide students with a chance to meet new people, make new friends, build a stronger network & develop better portfolios.
- Some Examples:
- Marketing BA has a "Game Marketing" module yet they don't mix with Game Technology BSc. Game Techs need marketing materials for their "Commercial Games Development" Module.
- Computer Science BSc has a "Web Design" where they're given made-up business... why not have the university mix Business & Management BA students into the mix?
- Better Use of Starting Block: Starting a year at UWE should be a clear explination of everything you can do at the university. All the facilities, areas and support. Not just 2 weeks of awkward chats about your course. You should be told clearly that, you're allowed to book out equipment from any department. You should be told about the UWE Navigator App which guides you around the campus.
- "You want a MetaQuest 2? Book it out at the Hive, no need to be a Game Tech."
- "You want to book out the music studio for voice overs? Of course you're allowed, no need to be an Audio Tech."
- "You want custom 3D printed board game peices? Just pay for the plastic, it's basically free, no need to be a Design and Archetect."
You and I can build a better community. Together.
