What experiences make me the best candidate?
I have developed strong advocacy skills from my experience both as a student ambassador and as a campaigner for the PBU initiative. This has enabled me to work with colleagues to develop and push joint ideas and has further allowed me to gain experience in leadership and communication. Through both roles, I have been democratic to ensure that everyone's voices and opinions have been heard. In the latter role, I have encouraged people to become more eco-conscious and consider their impact on the planet.
In addition to these more formal experiences, I have always been a very eco-conscious person. From changing my diet and supporting others to eat more sustainable foods, to opting for, and encouraging the use of public transportation over driving, it is clear that I have always been aware of the impact that myself and others have on the environment. I am campaigning to become the Sustainability Officer as it will allow me to make real, positive change at UWE- that aligns with UWE's sustainability promises.
What my key priorities and targets are if I'm were successful in being elected
Communication will continue to be a core value in how I operate as Sustainability Officer. My first goal is to cultivate a wide community of people interested in sustainability while fostering an open environment where everyone has a voice.
I will work with eco-conscious groups and individuals, like the Green Team, to host informative but educational events like quizzes, charity events and sustainability fairs. Sustainability fairs involve inviting local sustainable businesses and initiatives to come to campus and share their work.
I will work with both the Student's Union and UWE to offer more sustainable food options throughout the University's catering facilities. This will be a key priority if I am elected as I believe that making people more aware of where their food comes from and the impact that it has is a very achievable and realistic aim, with the resulting goal being to encourage people to make more sustainable choices.
I will aim to reduce waste on campus through improved recycling bin access. As well as encouraging campus food outlets to partner with Too Good To Go to reduce food waste and give students to purchase cheap food.
