No More Sidelines: Sport for ALL!

What experiences make me the best candidate?

Hi, I’m Anya! I’m an MSc Science Communication student and UWE Biological Sciences graduate.

As a previous Women’s 1st Team Volleyball Captain, I led my team to promotion while supporting teammates through the challenges of student-athlete life. I’ve organised international Volleyball Club trips and am a Sports Student Council member, advocating for students and strengthening our sports community.

With nearly six years as a student-athlete (crikey!), I know firsthand the realities of balancing studies, training, and finances. Off the court, I work in the SU’s Opportunities Team, where I already have great relationships with key decision-makers, making it easier to turn ideas into action.

Sport has defined my time at UWE – through competing, leading and bringing students together. I’m committed to making sport more accessible, inclusive, and celebrated across UWE!

My key priorities and targets if I am successful in being elected:

1. Opportunities for ALL students!

  • Sports Reps - Give all club members a voice and strengthen communication between clubs and the SU.
  • The UWE-lympics! A multi-sport event bringing students together for fun, community, and friendly competition.

2. Promoting student engagement and recognition

  • Student-led sports media crew - For students passionate about filmmaking, photography and editing, to produce quality sports content.
  • Improve livestreaming services - Showcase matches and club highlights more frequently across socials and campuses.

3. Championing inclusivity

  • Expand adaptive equipment and ensure coaches receive training to support disabled and neurodivergent students.
  • LGBTQ+ and cultural inclusion in sport campaigns - To celebrate UWE’s diverse community.

4. Mental health and wellbeing

  • Safe spaces and workshops - To help students manage performance pressure and balancing sport with academics and life.
  • Sports nutrition on a budget! A series focused on affordable, easy meal ideas for training, match days, and recovery.

5. Sustainability in sport

  • Swap Shop Drive - To donate and exchange pre-loved sports equipment and clothes to make sport more affordable while reducing waste.
  • Offer equipment maintenance services and repurpose beyond-repair equipment for creative student projects.

More play, more access, more recognition – let’s build a UWE Sports community that works for EVERY student!
