Your Voice, Our Community!

What experiences make me the best candidate?

Hi! I’m Leila, and I’m excited to run for VP Community and Welfare.

As a Biomedical Sciences graduate and MSc Public Health student, I’ve spent 4 fantastic years at UWE. I’ve done 2 lab-based internships, worked as a Student Ambassador, and served as a Student Rep, Silver Student Consultant and Student Council Member. Currently, I’m the Vice President of UWE Volleyball Club, as well as the Women’s 2 Vice-Captain, and have previously been an Events and Fundraising Officer.

With my leadership experience and dedication to our community, I believe I’m the ideal candidate for VP Community and Welfare.

Here are my 5 key objectives:

1. Developing a thriving UWE community:

  1. Kickstart your career: Support job fairs, CV-building workshops and LinkedIn crash-courses.
  2. Volunteering passport: Partner with local charities to encourage student volunteering, run sustainability projects and support the WHO Sustainable Development Goals.
  3. Mental health unplugged: Implement seminars to educate students with necessary skills and promote existing wellbeing services.

2. Boosting welfare:

  1. Hot meals: Advocate for free hot meals at The Student’s Union to tackle food insecurity on campuses.
  2. Safe UWE, Safe YOU: Organise self-defence classes and safety campaigns across UWE campuses.
  3. Period positive pledge: Have period products in ALL toilets on every UWE campus.

3. Health empowerment programs:

  1. Catch those ZZZ’s: Launch a sleep awareness campaign to advocate for healthy sleep habits.
  2. Affordable eats: Launch a cooking series on social media, to share budget-friendly, healthy, student-friendly recipes.

4. Smarter spending:

  1. Swap, don’t shop!: Promote swap and share events to encourage sustainability and community building.
  2. NUS campaigns: To increase awareness of essential resources and help students to spend smarter and save more!

5. Community engagement:

  1. Amplify the Student Voice: Regular student engagement and feedback to stay consistently informed about students’ needs.
  2. Resource hub: Promote more visibility and access to mental health, financial wellbeing and food banks local to UWE campuses.

For a supportive and thriving community, vote Leila for VP Community and Welfare!
