What experiences make me the best candidate?
I've been a UWE student for four years, and know the ins and out of what the university offers and therefore, what I can offer it! From working as a student ambassador, taking part in UWE move and music classes, to being the President of a society, I have tried to ingrain myself in the universities' culture and leave a positive impact on the student body.
In 2024 I became the President of the Rock And Metal Society; restarting it after its shut down years before. It quickly drew in interest and became one of the biggest societies in the university!
I know how daunting and isolating being a fresher can be, so from day one I've worked hard to make the society feel welcoming and give my society members a well needed sense of community. I am so proud to run the society and to have seen friendships form between members.
As someone who is informed on the UWE student experience, I am realistic about what improvements need be made and would love the opportunity to open this dialogue with students to communicate how their experience could be improved on. I come with the knowledge, experience and enthusiasm from running a society, and I believe I would be the best candidate to support and train other societies to be the best they can be!
What my key priorities and targets are if I'm were successful in being elected
If successfully elected, I will work hard to undertake any responsibilities needed of me while executing certain goals to improve the overall experience of the student body.
What I plan to achieve this year includes but is not limited to :
•Increasing Student Satisfaction
UWE run an amazing selection of activities; I want to build on the success of these activities by making them more accessible and enjoyable for students. I would like to facilitate this by ensuring there is a greater selection of events available in the afternoon or after lectures, ensuring the inclusion of Bower and Glenside students and hosting regular free food based activities such as cooking classes. I will always be open and ready to listen to the suggestions of students in regards to what activities they would like to see and what would make these events more accessible for the average student.
•Supporting Societies
Starting or running a society can be intimidating or even stressful at times, I want to minimize the amount of stress on our students by running regular casual drop in sessions where students can discuss their ideas, ask questions and get assistance in filling in paperwork. To increase satisfaction with society members and to avoid societies becoming inactive, I would like to implement a quota to be met by societies in regards to how many events they host each academic term.
•Enhancing Wellbeing
I would like to improve the academic lives of students through increasing their wellbeing at UWE. On all three campuses, I plan to increase UWE's cost of living support, I will look into bringing back the free shuttle transportation to and from campus, improving the community larder and implementing any viable ways of support that students suggest. I also believe I could improve on the experiences of students studying on campus in the evenings, weekends or out of hours, such as through increasing the accessibility to low light study spaces or whole foods.
