My name’s Pierce and I’m running for the position of Democratic Procedures Officer (DPO) here at the UWE Students’ Union. I’m a first-year sociology student particularly interested in social problems and economy with fair representation and democratic systems being of strong importance to me. I currently hold the position of Treasurer for the Calisthenics Society, where I manage finances transparently and effectively, whilst engaging with members and taking their concerns and criticisms up with the rest of the committee. Following this I will be running for Vice-President of this society for the 2025-2026 academic year, where I hope to make positive changes and encourage more people to get involved. If elected for the position of DPO, I will work to uphold the integrity of our democratic procedures and make sure the students voice is stronger than ever.

My Priorities as Democratic Procedures Officer

1. Improving the accountability of the Students’ Union

• Push for financial transparency and regular reports on the decisions being made.
• Ensure the student representatives are held accountable to their promises and responsibilities.

2. Promoting Digital Engagement and Accessibility

• Develop the Students’ Union website to emphasise upcoming votes, policy tracking and any proposals that are being made.
• Ensures that all students, including those studying remotely, have equal access to democratic participation

3. Increase awareness of Democracy at the Students’ Union

• Organise events to educate students on their rights and to get more involved.
• Create easily accessible materials to help break down the election and decision-making processes

4. Strengthen the student voice

• Create forums where students can directly contribute to policy discussions
• Work with societies and student groups to ensure they’re being represented in decision-making
