Hello, UWE students!
My name is Shahzeb and I’m running to be your next Democratic Officer. I’m passionate about ensuring that every student’s voice is heard, respected, and acted upon. As your Democratic Officer, I will work tirelessly to make our Student Union more transparent, inclusive, and representative of all students.
Why I’m Running
I believe that democracy is the foundation of a strong and vibrant student community. However, I’ve noticed that many students feel disconnected from the decision-making processes in our Student Union. I want to change that by making democracy more accessible, engaging, and impactful for everyone.

My Key Policies
1. Increase Student Engagement
- Host regular town halls and forums where students can voice their concerns and ideas.
- Create more opportunities for students to participate in decision-making, such as through online polls and surveys.
2. Improve Transparency
- Ensure all Student Union decisions and processes are clearly communicated to students.
- Publish meeting minutes and updates in an accessible format for all students.
3. Strengthen Representation
- Work with course reps, societies, and student groups to ensure diverse voices are heard.
- Advocate for better support and resources for underrepresented groups.
4. Promote Inclusivity
- Ensure all students, regardless of background or identity, feel welcome and represented in the Student Union.
- Campaign for policies that address systemic barriers to participation.
5. Enhance Communication
- Use social media, newsletters, and other platforms to keep students informed about SU activities and decisions.
- Create a feedback loop so students can see the impact of their input.
