Thu 07 November 2024 11:30-13:30
4z002, in the School of Engineering (Z Block)
WHEN:
7th Nov, 11.30 – 1.30
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Join us on Thursday 7th November for a practical and informative session focusing on materials, as part of UWE’s Green Fortnight:
“Knowledge of where materials come from, how they behave and, ultimately, degrade is crucial in designing and creating sustainable end products that support a more circular economy”
Material Lab (2021), Why Material Literacy is the Key to a Sustainable Future. Available from: https://www.material-lab.co.uk/blog/why-material-literacy-key-sustainable-future/ [Accessed 04 Mar 2024].
Hands on workshop activities and informal discussion
Through a series of different activities, you’ll have the chance to explore the different sensory and tactile properties of materials and consider how they could be used in different ways. You’ll also be introduced to innovative and exciting new recycled and bio-based materials currently in development within industry.
Pop-up artists’ books handling exhibition
Be inspired by a range of examples of artists using materials in unique and interesting ways: artists’ books employ materials and processes that are embedded in how practitioners articulate their bodies and senses to engage with materials, equipment, and presses to develop their work. Feel free to handle the work and ask any questions.
This event is part of Green Fortnight, our annual festival of eco ideas, events, and smart living, which will take place from October 28th to November 10th, 2024. You can find out more information here: https://www.thestudentsunion.co.uk/getinvolved/thegreenteam/getinvolved/greenfortnight/
