Cost of Living Support

We are acutely aware that this will not provide support for all students, however, we hope it will give us an opportunity to understand the largest areas of need, which will inform more targeted work as we move through the year.

FOOD

 

Bring Your Own Cup 

Come along on to The Students' Union at UWE, Lower Engagement Space Union 1, U block, Frenchay Campus with your reusable cup and help yourself to a free hot drink. Please note we do have a set number of products per day so please use fairly and considerate of others.

This provision will be available 09:30-17:30 Monday to Friday during these term time weeks:

• WC 9^th Sept 2024 up to and including WC 9^th Dec 2024
• WC 13th January 2025 up to and including WC 31st March 2025
• WC 21st April 2025 up to and including WC 26th May 2025

We will be supplying the coffee, tea bags, oat milk and stirrers but if you wish to bring your own preferred hot drink you are more than welcome to.

Community Larder 

The Community Larders are returning for 2024/2025 at Frenchay, Glenside and Bower Ashton Students' Unions have been set up to support students with free long life food and home goods that is stocked up weekly.

We also have donation points at all sites and the UWE sustainability hub (Frenchay) whereby you can donate unwanted items as long as they are unopened.

All sites will have stock on the below weeks:

• WC 9^th Sept 2024 up to and including WC 9^th Dec 2024
• WC 13th January 2025 up to and including WC 31st March 2025
• WC 21st April 2025 up to and including WC 26th May 2025

Bower Ashton Larder is located at the Community Corner which is generally open 10:00-15:00 Monday to Friday the larder is open whilst stock lasts.

Glenside Larder is located next to the SU Office and open on a adhoc basis whilst stock lasts.

Frenchay Larder will be open Wednesday and Friday afternoon located behind reception.

CLOTHING

Swap shop

We will enhance our existing swap shop and look to embed as a core element of the new UWE Bristol Eco Hub. Swap Shops are free community events where students and staff can bring their pre-loved clothes and/or books and trade them for items that catch their eye.

Glenside Uniform Swap Shop

Here at The Students' Union, we understand how expensive placements can be. The price of uniforms, parking, accommodation and enough coffee to get you through your shift - it all adds up! That's why we've developed the Placement Uniform Swap Shop, to give our healthcare students a more budget-friendly, eco-friendly placement experience.

This will run on a Wednesday, 12:00–14:00, from Wednesday 6 September in The Students’ Union at Glensdie until the Winter Break.

Emergency clothing supplies

Where urgent support on clothing is required, we will work with our support services to provide basic packages to members. Please contact The Students’ Union President, if you are in this position. SUPresident@uwe.ac.uk

We support students with sustainable transportation and offer our Bike Loan Scheme to students.

PERIOD POVERTY

We are working with UWE Bristol to supply more toilets across the campus sites where plastic free single-use period products will be available if you are caught short. 

SUSTAINABLE PERIOD SUPPORT

The Students' Union have free, disposable period products in all of our toilets and work with UWE to provide products across campus sites. You can see a full list of locations here. Products are also available by the Students' Union reception at Frenchay, the Students' Union office at Glenside and the Community Corner at Bower Ashton. Products can be found in selected toilets at Spike Island and Arnolfini campuses too. 

We will be running monthly period stalls again from April - you can stock up on free NatraCare period products and find out more about our sustainable period product trial which gives you the opportunity try a re-usable period product for free.
