Title: Update on 21 January 2021
We, the Presidents Team, have been busy speaking to students, gathering information from those leading petitions understanding the concerns and issues students are facing in this challenging time. We would like to thank you all for your patience over the past few days.
In addition, we have been lobbying and negotiating with the University and we are pleased to announce that we have agreed on a safety net that will support you, our members, at both cohort and individual level and will ensure you gain the outcome that fully reflects your personal achievements.
UWE’s Safety Net Measures Announcement
The University has now published its full safety net measures and students should also check their emails for more details. For students who need clarification about how this applies to their course, please speak to your programme/module leader or send an email to The Students’ Union Representation Team (studentreps@uwe.ac.uk).
Appeals
If you decide to appeal, please speak to our Students’ Union independent Advice Centre (Advice@uwe.ac.uk) for support. We at The Students’ Union believe that the measures the University have put in place would give you, our students, the best outcomes for their time at UWE Bristol, especially as it involves a cohort and individual review.
Accommodation
UWE Bristol will refund six weeks of rent to students living on campus accommodation who are not able to return to their accommodation. We will continue to lobby both locally and nationally for students in private accommodation. We have received positive responses from MP Darren Jones, MP Kerry Mccarthy and MP Thangam Debbonaire to lobby the Government and use their influence to encourage private landlords to offer discounts or contract release for students who are not able to access their accommodation.
As always please do continue to feedback to us and we will continue to use our lobbying position and strong relationship with the university to deliver the support you need during this pandemic.
