The new academic year is here and the excitement of a fresh start is in the air. Firstly, Freshers’ Fair was a huge success! We are very happy to welcome new and returning students and I’m particularly interested in improving students’ engagement levels. The Students’ Union at UWE has a lot to offer new students and I would encourage you to take advantage of these resources. During Welcome, I released a ‘Welcome to UWE Bristol’ tour video, helping new students navigate through the three main campuses. Check this out here.
Still in the spirit of Welcome, over the first few weeks I attended Glenside’s and Bower’s registration events. I also went to various induction sessions with both undergraduate and postgraduate students, across all campuses. We had several activities going on, such as a roller disco and a charity pop-up shop in collaboration with British Heart Foundation.
I attended the Engineering building ‘topping out’ ceremony, alongside academics and some members of the Governors’ Board. This marked the significant milestone on the road to completion of the project in 2020.
Finally, my role as President is incomplete without meetings and trainings. September at the SU involved antisemitism, cultural awareness and unconscious bias training. I attended the Board of Governors and Academic board meetings, where key decisions were made. I also attended several meetings involving a partnership project between UWE Bristol, UoB and the NHS. At these meetings I get to represent the student voice.
Some other things I have been up to: planning for RAG, Inter-faith Week, Black History Month and World Mental Health Day, as well as many interviews across various departments and faculties.
Remember, I am here to represent the UWE Bristol student community. Please feel free to pop in to The Students' Union on Frenchay Campus to see me, or catch me at our satellite campuses during one of my pop-ups.
