Evan Botwood - VP Societies and Communication
After a month of fundraising, we are excited to announce that this year’s Movember campaign has raised £4442, surpassing last year’s total of £3800. I am so proud of the UWE Bristol student community for getting behind this year’s campaign and for allowing us to raise such a great amount of money.
I am delighted to share some of mine and the Presidents Team highlights from the month!
The Students' Union President, Precious held a Male Mental Health Focus Group during Movember, which saw male UWE Bristol students discuss their experiences of mental health, ways to maintain their mental health and a range of other topics around male mental and physical health.
Our sports clubs and societies really got behind this year’s campaign and put on a range of fundraising events, which aimed to raise money and get teams talking about male health. To encourage clubs to get involved there was a £100 prize for the winning club, to spend on an event of their choice.
I would like to say a big well done to the Rugby Team who raised the most money through their social night at Revolution!
The Presidents Team worked on a range of social media promotion to help raise awareness of Movember. We used videos and GIFs to show students everything that was happening during the month and to spread awareness of men’s health – my personal favourite GIF was the one which showed the progress of my moustache, which I donned throughout the campaign!
All of our campuses got involved with this year’s campaign and held a range of events including a Movember themed quiz, cake sales, and a movie evening!
Research undertaken by The Office for National Statistics has found a male suicide rate of 17 men out of 100,000. The Students' Union President Precious ended Movember by lighting candles across all levels of The Students' Union in remembrance of the man who have taken their own lives.
We would like to thank everyone who got involved with this year’s Movember campaign! I cannot wait to see how we can build on this success next year!
