UWE squash is a mixed club and a great way to improve your fitness, have fun and to meet friendly people at University. We welcome all abilities and whether you want to learn, play socially or competitively, UWE Squash is the club to join!
For a start, Forbes voted squash “The World's Healthiest Sport”. Squash holds many physical and psychological benefits. They include:
And best of all, these benefits can all be achieved within an hour, no matter what the great British weather throws at you!
For those of you who are looking to play competitively we feature four BUCS teams; 3 men's teams and 1 women's team (we are looking to start a second women’s team). Teams will typically play every Wednesday afternoon throughout the academic year competing in a BUCS league and then a knockout tournament. Players will also have access to weekly team coaching sessions taken by Elite Squash coaches, a great opportunity to bond with teammates and to receive professional guidance and feedback.
Looking to play socially on a regular basis? Then there are plenty of opportunities to pick up squash as a beginner or to improve your game without committing to training schedules. We welcome you to join us every Sunday (3-5pm) or Tuesday (6-8pm) where you will have the chance to improve your squash skills while playing friendly games. UWE MOVE also runs a beginner session with a coach from elite squash.
Squash is great for relieving stress, but so is a good night out! As a club we like to make the most of what Bristol nightlife has to offer. Alongside nights out, we hold social tournaments (welcoming all abilities), this is a great way to put your new skills to the test and is another opportunity to meet and get to know your fellow club members.
Please drop me an email at hannah2.mcgugan@live.uwe.ac.uk Or drop us a message on instagram at uwe_squash. Once received, we will be in contact with all the information you need.
Is squash for you? Unsure of whether to join? Don’t worry, still send me an email as there are welcome events and sessions that are run for free at the beginning of freshers to provide you with an opportunity to give it a go.
So, if you are looking to learn a new sport, improve existing skills, or get stuck into playing competitively for a university team, this is a great opportunity!
