Extra Information: Disposable paper cups are not recyclable due to the plastic waterproof lining; they end up in landfill. They are often mistakenly thrown in recycling bins where they contaminate recycling. Disposable plastic gets used once then exists for hundreds of years before breaking down. Much of it gets thrown in the normal trash. We are at a point of ecological catastrophe where the oceans are filled with a multitude of plastics of various forms and sizes. Studies have shown that young fish now prefer eating plastic to their normal food. We cannot complacently wait for sluggish and timid governments to implement policies to address the colossal problem at hand. We have the power to address this on a micro-level through cultural change. Why aren't we doing this?
