Extra Information: With such a small percentage of recycling actually getting recycled, a continual production of single use plastics (8 million metric tons of which finds its way into our oceans annually), the importance of raising awareness around the topic, educating people to alternative solutions, and containing the single use plastics to make ecobricks is of great importance in attempting to reduce the quantity of plastic entering into the biosphere.

  • This idea opened on 28th March 2019 and closed for voting on 18th April 2019.
  • Not enough students have voted on this Idea. This Idea has failed.

  • This idea has been marked as a win. The Students' Union has taken such actions such as working to educate students on sustainable alternatives through the introduction of the Zero Waste Shop, promoting the use of sustainable period products and discouraging the use of single use plastic wherever possible during Welcome Fair. Information around reducing sustaible use plastic has also been included within guides around sustaible living that The Students' Union have produced. The Students' Union has also lobbied UWE to commit to the Plastic Pact 2025.
